MR. DAY CHARACTER:
Brand character studies
Background: The Flour Man was created in 2010. We created him together with Mr. Day on the occasion of the relaunching of the brand, to substitute the milk material created for Parmalat. The character then came to life on the web, with the creation of a Muppets-style puppet. Also on that occasion, however, Mr. Day remained a “head and shoulders man” missing the chance to express an important part of his personality. In 2015 the project was born of the little characters, to be included as a free gift in the packages, with the creation of some cartoons starring MrDay. To do this we had to think, create and design an entire character.
Objective: To study the personality of the character by designing and defining the whole personage, in order to create some three-dimensional versions of it.
The project: Going from the two-dimensionality of the brand to the three-dimensionality of an object made it necessary to begin by defining the style of the design and then enter into the detail of the lines and the expressions of the face. Immediately afterward we went on to imagine what the rest of the body could look like. The bag was the solution that enabled us to contain the flour material, at the same time giving it a man-like shape to facilitate the creation of movement and the stability of the 3D version.
The project was accomplished in collaboration with the cartoonist and illustrator Moreno Chistè of Trento.
